Profile: New Life Baptist Church (NLBC)

The church has a rich history, previously pastured by Pastor Peter Mugabi, now being run by Pastor Richmond, with Peter taking on the role as General Secretary for the Baptist Union of Uganda, and staying on as an elder,

The church moved location a few months ago. Their previous permanent location they were removed from (along with the rest of the community), as the government sold off the land to a developer for regeneration. In the interim they were renting a location, which was very expensive. In April they completed the purchase of the piece of land in Kireka, which the church is now based, in a tent. They have paid the initial deposits of 80 million, and the first of the reminding two instalments of 40 million. Once the land is paid off (much of which has been paid for by the church themselves), they will look to build a venue, which they have sketches of already (good to have visuals when your casting vision!)

The church meets on a Sunday morning at 11am, and finishes around 13:00. There are about 40-50 people at the moment, they lost a lot of members when they moves locations, but speaking to Dr Clive (British missionary working in the Baptist Seminary about an hour away), the church has doubled in size since he has last there for the launch (April this year). Midweek they have bible studies on a Wednesday, and GO (Gospel Outreach) Fellowship on a Thursday, specifically aimed at the youth (14-30).

The churches mission is:

“To change communities for Christ”
The vision is Kampala, but it starts with those living around them in Kireka. Arthur’s already starting connecting with the local secondary schools, and part of my work here will be to help them connect with the local university students, many who live in the area around the church in hostels.
